Terms of Service

Effective Date: March 19, 2026

Last Updated: March 19, 2026

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using ProtocolLib (protocollib.net), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you should stop using the website immediately.

These Terms apply to every visitor, user, and person who accesses or interacts with this website in any way. They took effect on the date listed above and remain in force unless updated.

2. Description of Service

ProtocolLib is an independently operated informational website. We provide guides, download links, technical documentation, and related resources for the ProtocolLib Bukkit/Spigot/Paper plugin — a server-side library that gives Minecraft plugins read and write access to the network protocol.

We are not the developers, maintainers, or official distributors of ProtocolLib software. The plugin is developed and maintained by Dan Mulloy (dmulloy2) and contributors on GitHub. All software belongs to its respective developers and is released under the GNU General Public License v2.0 (GPL-2.0).

We do not host software files on our servers. Download links on this site point to official and original sources such as GitHub Releases, Hangar (PaperMC), and BukkitDev. All content on this website is provided for informational and educational purposes only.

3. Intellectual Property

The ProtocolLib name, associated logos, and related trademarks belong to their respective owners. Our use of these names and marks is strictly for identification and informational purposes under fair use principles.

Original content on this website — including articles, guides, descriptions, page layouts, and HTML/CSS code — is the property of ProtocolLib (protocollib.net). You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute our original content without written permission.

The ProtocolLib plugin itself is open-source software licensed under GPL-2.0. Nothing on this website grants you any additional rights beyond what that license already provides.

4. Use of the Website

You agree to use this website only for lawful purposes. Specifically, you agree not to:

  • Use the site in any way that violates applicable local, national, or international laws
  • Attempt to interfere with the site’s operation, infrastructure, or security measures
  • Scrape, crawl, or harvest content from the site through automated means without permission
  • Use the site to distribute malware, spam, or any other malicious content
  • Impersonate any person, entity, or falsely represent your affiliation with any party
  • Use automated tools to access the site at a rate that places excessive load on our servers
  • Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with any security features

5. Downloads and Software

This section is especially important. Please read it carefully.

All download links on this site direct you to external sources — primarily the official ProtocolLib GitHub repository and the Hangar plugin marketplace. We do not host, modify, repackage, or redistribute any software files.

You are solely responsible for:

  • Verifying that any downloaded JAR file is authentic and unmodified (check SHA-256 hashes when available)
  • Scanning downloaded files with up-to-date antivirus or security software before use
  • Reading and agreeing to the software’s own license (GPL-2.0) before installation
  • Confirming compatibility with your Minecraft server version and Java runtime (Java 17+ required for recent releases)
  • Maintaining proper backups of your server files, worlds, and configurations before installing any plugin
  • Understanding that running untrusted JAR files on a server carries inherent security risks

We do not provide technical support for ProtocolLib or any other software featured on this site. For plugin support, visit the official GitHub Issues page or community forums.

Download links may become outdated as new versions are released. We make reasonable efforts to keep links current, but we cannot guarantee that every link will point to the latest version at all times.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

This website and all its content are provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis. We make no warranties or representations of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including but not limited to:

  • The accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any information on this site
  • That the website will be available without interruption or free from errors
  • That content is free from viruses, malware, or other harmful components
  • Fitness for a particular purpose or merchantability
  • That download links will function correctly or remain current
  • That software obtained through links on this site will perform as described

We expressly disclaim all warranties to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. Information about ProtocolLib features, compatibility, and system requirements reflects our understanding at the time of writing and may not reflect the current state of the software.

7. Limitation of Liability

Under no circumstances shall ProtocolLib (protocollib.net), its operators, contributors, or affiliates be liable for any:

  • Direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind
  • Damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, this website
  • Damages arising from any plugin or software downloaded through links on this site
  • Loss of data, server corruption, revenue, profit, or business opportunity
  • Minecraft server crashes, world corruption, or plugin conflicts
  • Any action taken based on information found on this website

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory — whether based on warranty, contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other basis — and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total cumulative liability shall not exceed zero dollars ($0 USD).

9. Advertisements

This website may display advertisements served through Google AdSense or similar third-party advertising networks. These ads are delivered by the ad network, not directly by us.

We do not endorse any products or services shown in advertisements. Ad content is selected by the advertising network based on factors such as browsing behavior, geographic location, and other targeting criteria.

Clicking on advertisements is entirely at your own discretion and risk. We bear no responsibility for the content, accuracy, or reliability of any advertised product or service.

10. Content Accuracy and Updates

We do our best to provide accurate and current information about ProtocolLib, including version details, system requirements, feature descriptions, and setup instructions. However, the Minecraft plugin ecosystem changes frequently. Versions, API compatibility, dependencies, and available features can shift with every release.

We cannot guarantee that all information on this site is accurate at any given moment. When the ProtocolLib developers release updates, there may be a delay before our content reflects those changes.

We reserve the right to modify, update, or remove any content on this site at any time without notice. If you spot outdated or incorrect information, we appreciate hearing about it through our contact page.

11. DMCA and Copyright

We respect the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe that any content on this website infringes your copyright, please refer to our Disclaimer page for the full DMCA takedown process and contact details.

We respond promptly to valid DMCA notices and will remove or disable access to infringing material as required by law.

12. Privacy

Your use of this website is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using this site, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in that document.

We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy to understand what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ProtocolLib (protocollib.net) and its operators from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of this website
  • Your violation of these Terms of Service
  • Your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights
  • Any content you submit through the contact form or other communication channels

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or your use of this website shall first be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation does not resolve the dispute, it shall be submitted to the appropriate courts of competent jurisdiction. You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving the original intent.

16. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. When we make changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page.

Your continued use of this website after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to check this page periodically for updates.

17. Termination

We reserve the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to this website at any time, without prior notice, for any reason or no reason at all.

All provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including (but not limited to) intellectual property provisions, warranty disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy and Disclaimer, constitute the entire agreement between you and ProtocolLib (protocollib.net) regarding your use of this website.

They supersede any prior agreements, understandings, or arrangements between you and us, whether written or oral.
